Verploegen, Verhoeff & Van Der Westen

For more than 20 years this highly acoustic trio of Fluegelhorn, guitar and double bass has been working together with a delicate introvert but powerful own musical character. The trio released 4 albums of which the 1st one: The Night And The Daydreamer on Challenge Records is not available anymore. The 2nd album, For The Time Being on Eric Van Der Westen’s label EWM-Music, was released under the name Amsterdam Jazz Trio because of a Japanese tour when the names were understandably unpronounceable for the organizing booker.
The 3rd album The Sweetest Sound was only released digitally for an super audio high end audience on Channel Classics but sold over 35000 copies worldwide. The latest and 4th album When Night Falls was released in 2022 again for Channel Classics but also available on cd – a rare exception for the label in whose opinion cd quality audio (wav) is inferior and leaves out the exquisite details of the top quality recorded music. Though the repertoire generally consists of inspiring original compositions the last 2 albums contain a selection of songs from the American Songbook of which the trio relentlessly renders its own versions. Changing the music to fit the trio and making an improvisational impact with it is the benchmark of this fine group.

They plan to work on 2 new projects in the next couple of years: the 1st one is to explore the music of the great American Jazz Composer & pianist Thelonious Monk. The 2nd one is a to rework and record filmscore music to fit this eloquent club of musicians.
The trio consists of Angelo Verploegen on Fluegelhorn, Ed Verhoeff on Guitar & Eric van der Westen on Double Bass
